This is a previously used manual. It's it good condition but has some staining on the edges and chapter 2 the engine section. The front cover also has a 1 1/2" tear at the top left. 1929 The Oxwelder's Manual (039aMB)

© 1940, 7th Printing 1951. The authors are, George Sachs, Dipl., Ing., D. Eng., ‘Case School of Applied Science’, and Kent R. Van Horn, B.S., M.S., Ph. D., ‘Aluminum Co. of America’. The completed title is: Applied Physical Metallurgy and the Industrial Processing of Ferrous and Nonferrous Metals and Alloys. (Now that is a mouthful!). This 550-plus pages book is extensively descriptive in this topic. Included are: Charts, Tables, Graphs, (b & w) photos and illustrations. The book is in amazingly ‘new’ condition – almost inside and out! The only thing you will see is that the former owner wrote in pencil on the inside cover page: "Used In Heat Treating Course, A.S.M. – Detroit ‘57", and that it had once sat on a bookshelf – but, you have to squint to see even that! Also included is a 3-page paper insert reprinted from, "Metals and Alloys, Jan. 1937". The subject is: "The Process and Result of Austenite Transformation at Constant Temperature". It is in black and white and a small graph is included. It has been quarter-folded, and shows some of its age, but it is still in good condition! The book, and insert will be a great addition to any unique collection!

This 157 page book is from, "A Series of Five Educational Lectures on the Principles of the Heat Treatment of Steels Presented to the Members of the ASM during the 17th National Metal Congress and Exposition, Chicago, Ill., Sept. 30 to Oct. 4, 1935". The Author is: M.A. Grossman, Director of Research, Carnegie-Ill., Steel Corp., Chicago. This book extensively delves into its subject throughout the 10-plus chapters. Included are: many (b & w) Photographs, References, Graphs, Charts, Figures, and Tables, plus the ‘Appendix’ that covers, "Commercial Heat Treating Operations". Also included with this book is a separate chart – approx. 24" x 15" – that is on, "The Process and Result of Austenite Transformation at Constant Temperature - ©1935. It is in perfect condition, except for the top & side edge of the pages appear slightly darkened from sitting on a bookshelf for 65 years. On the inside of the front cover is the handwritten name of the original owner- "Henry S. Young, Jr. – ‘39", and on the first page, written in the upper right corner, "1.50". On the inside of the back cover is handwritten, "Sodium (?) Phosphates", and on several of the inside pages there are some notations written along the sides of those pages in pencil from the original owner.
